"Looking every inch like the celestial staircase it's purported to be, "Starsteps" (pictured to the right) is the latest brainchild of Chicago artist John David Mooney. Commissioned by Metromedia, Inc. to create a focal piece for Los Angeles' recent bicentennial celebrations, Mooney responded with his version of "A Stairway to Heaven."

Located atop Metromedia's headquarters building on the corner of the Hollywood Freeway and Sunset Boulevard, Starsteps is a steel sculpture composed of two 13-ft long elements. The piece stands 35-ft-high, adding the equivalent of two stories to the Metromedia building, which also serves as a pedestal for the artwork. The 40,000-pound sculpture is a public work of art, having been expressly designed to be viewed by the area's many passing motorists."
