Trusted with a truly priceless sculpture! One of our proudest acheivments was a project for the Vatican. Michaelangelo's Pieta (pictured below) is one of his most famous works of art. The statue, made out of marble, was finished before Michaelangelo was 25 years old (1498-1500). It depicts the youthful Mary seated majestically, holding the dead Christ across her lap, a theme borrowed from northern European art. Instead of revealing extreme grief, Mary is restrained, and her expression is one of resignation. Today this piece sits in its original place, Saint Peter's Basilica, and Belding Walbridge had the privelege of relocating it for the Vatican's traveling expedition across the U.S. in 1982.
